MATTHEW Aquino will be transferring from Adamson to National University in the wake of a coaching change in the Falcons' camp, sources told Spin.ph on Friday.
The 6-foot-7 Aquino has shown great improvement in his game while suiting up for the Falcons in the ongoing Filoil Cup but decided to make the switch after Kenneth Duremdes was relieved of his duties as head coach.
Aquino, whose dad Marlou was part of the Adamson coaching staff as an assistant during Duremdes' time in charge, no longer played for the Falcons on Friday during a loss to Jose Rizal University.
The development came just days after Duremdes was relieved of his duties as head coach by the school, which cited the need to have a full-time coach to handle the struggling UAAP side.
Duremdes, however, rued the 'unprofessional' way he was relieved, saying he was informed about the change through a text message.
At posting time, it wasn’t clear whether the elder Aquino is still part of the Adamson coaching staff now headed by Mike Fermin, another former assistant of Duremdes.
Aquino averaged just 1.6 points and 1.6 rebounds in his rookie year with the Falcons, but has drawn raves from the Falcons coaching staff after putting in a lot of work on his game in the offseason.
He has been having good games in the preseason.
