MATT Nieto sustained a strained right hamstring in Ateneo’s game against La Salle on Sunday, but is good to go for the team’s final game in UAAP Season 78 elimination round against University of the East on Saturday.

Team manager Epok Quimpo confirmed Nieto avoided a serious injury after landing awkwardly during the second half of the Blue Eagles’ 73-62 win over the Green Archers.

Asked about the injury shortly after the ballgame, the freshman was optimistic it wasn’t serious.

“I can walk it naman pero medyo may ika-ika,” said Nieto, who averages 3.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in his rookie year. “But I’ll be fine.”

“Tumalon kasi ako for the ball kasi para putback sana. May narinig na ako nun and nung bumagsak ako, may naramdaman na ako. ‘Yung impact ng landing lang siguro ‘yun.

“Hindi siya a hundred percent pero hindi sobrang sakit na I’ll be out,” said Nieto, a former star player of the Ateneo Blue Eaglets.
