UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas continued to play solid basketball under Aldin Ayo, beating Far Eastern University, 78-70, on Sunday for its third straight win in the UAAP Season 81 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Continuing to show signs of maturity as it embraces Ayo’s system, the Growling Tigers came up with an inspired effort in the fourth period, going on a 10-0 tear to break away from the Tamaraws.

Leading by just one, 55-54, Zach Huang and Germy Mahinay came out with big shots to create separation from the Tamaraws and take a 65-54 lead with 3:55 remaining.

Arvin Tolentino tried to will back the Tamaraws but that ultimately fell short, with the forward’s night ending early anew as he got called for another disqualifying foul in his return from a one-game suspension.

Huang led the Growling Tigers as he finished with a career high 20 points and six rebounds, with 10 of his points coming in the payoff period as UST improved to 4-4 for the season, matching the number of wins that Boy Sablan had in two years.
