MARVIN Lee admitted he is already feeling the pressure in trying to salvage a miserable season for University of Santo Tomas, who are now two losses away from ending up winless in UAAP Season 80.
The Growling Tigers are moving closer to a record of futility as they lost their 12th game in as many outings after losing to reigning champion La Salle, 94-59, on Sunday.
The 35-point blowout loss to La Salle was the latest in a string of lopsided defeats by UST, as they are now averaging 36.25 points in losses to the Green Archers over the past two seasons.
Admittedly, Lee said the prospect of finishing with a winless season is adding undue pressure to the Tigers.
“Sobra,” said the 19-year-old Lee, when asked if he is feeling the pressure of possibly losing all 14 games, “kasi para sa akin, first time mangyayari sa akin ‘yung 0-14.”
Lee also admitted feeling frustrated about their struggles, especially being one of the veterans of the team. He currently leads the team in scoring with 13.3 points per game, while also contributing 3.7 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.4 steals.
“Sobra kasi hindi ko nadadala ‘yung mga kasama ko. Hindi kako nakakatulong sa kanila,” said the third-year cager from Far Eastern University-Diliman high school.
The two remaining games of UST won’t be smooth sailing as the Growling Tigers face the unbeaten Ateneo Blue Eagles next weekend before wrapping up the season against University of the East on November 12.
Lee hopes UST learns from the mistakes in the past quick so they can still pull off at least a win before the season ends.
“Binibigay naman namin ‘yung best namin pero eto ‘yung nangyari. Aral namin ‘yung mga nangyari para mag-improve kami,” said Lee.
“Alam naman natin na wala na chance. Dito, start na rin kami mag-prepare for next year. Parang iniisip na lang namin na mag-focus kami para maka-bounce back kami sa mga nangyari dito,” he added.
