MARVIN Lee is going to forgo his final playing year with University of Santo Tomas.
UST head coach Aldin Ayo confirmed that the senior point guard won’t play in UAAP Season 82 to focus on bringing his talent to the next level.
“I advised Marvin na mag-focus sa MPBL,” Ayo told the reporters on Friday. “Marami na kasi kaming point guard. We have Renzo (Subido), we have Mark Nonoy, we have Mahloney Tarranza, Brent (Paraiso) also plays point.”
Lee already signed with the Manila Stars for the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Cup, which tips off on June 12.
Ayo said that he doesn’t want Lee to fight for his minutes against young point guards in his final playing year.
“Andami na naming maliliit,” he said. “I told him na ayaw ko namang sa last year mo, uupo ka. Kaya he will now pursue playing in the MPBL.”
The UST coach still encourages his former point guard to accomplish his degree as he is still a scholar.
“He also has to finish his studies first. May scholarship pa rin siya sa UST,” Ayo said
Lee had a UAAP Finals appearance when he was a rookie in 2015, where UST settled for silver medal losing to Far Eastern University in Game 3.
He averaged 14.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.4 steals in his fourth year under Ayo last year, where UST finished six with a 5-9 win-loss record.
