MAC Belo isn’t taking things easy even if Far Eastern University continues to lord it over in the UAAP men's basketball tournament.
“Marami pa kaming dapat ayusin (We still have a lot to work on),” said Belo, who bagged the ACCEL Quantum/3XVI-UAAP Press Corps Player of the Week after leading the Tamaraws to a share of the top spot with an 8-1 record.
Last week, Belo led the FEU charge as the Tamaraws needed a huge fourth-quarter run to fend off University of the Philippines, 68-57, and stay on top with University of Santo Tomas.
Belo scattered nine of his 12 points in the Tamaraws’ decisive 18-2 run to break away from a slim one-point lead and build a 63-46 cushion with 3:46 remaining.
The North Cotabato native also pulled down 12 rebounds and dished out two assists in the crucial victory that pushed the Tamaraws within a win of a Final Four berth.
Currently the hottest team in the league with a seven-game winning streak, the Tamaraws aim to advance to the semifinals for the third straight season with Belo determined to elevate his level of play.
"Ibang teams nag-aadjust na, kaya kami dapat din mag-adjust (The other teams are adjusting, so we also have to adjust),” said Belo, who is averaging a team-best 13.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game this season.
Belo bested Ateneo’s Kiefer Ravena and UST’s Kevin Ferrer for the week’s plum given by sports scribes from national dailies and online portals.
