CHAMPION coach Louie Alas is in the mix for the head-coaching job at De La Salle.
Alas is the latest to join the list of candidates being considered for the post recently vacated by Derrick Pumaren.
The veteran coach has been very interested in handling the basketball program of the Taft-based school, but didn't submit his application until Pumaren's contract was not renewed by the school.

Alas submitted his application addressed to La Salle president Bro. Bernard Oca.
Among those earlier mentioned as candidates for the La Salle coaching job are Topex Robinson, who recently parted ways with PBA team Phoenix, and La Salle women's coach Cholo Villanueva, who also serves as a deputy for Hong Kong-based team Bay Area Dragons.
The 59-year-old Alas is a decorated college coach responsible for the successful basketball program of Letran in the late 90s all the way to 2012.
During that stretch, he steered the Knights to three championships, two finals appearances and consistent Final Four appearances.
In between, he also coached the Manila Metrostars to the championship of the defunct Metropolitan Basketball Association (MBA), and served as coach as well of Talk N Text in the PBA and Hapee Toothpaste in the PBL.
He was a long-time deputy mentor at Alaska, before accepting the coaching job at Phoenix, which was the last team he handled.
