LA Salle and University of the Philippines look to bounce back from their opening game setbacks when they clash in the UAAP men’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The two teams collide at 2 p.m.
The Green Archers lost in overtime to University of Santo Tomas, 58-63, on Saturday while the Maroons bowed to Adamson, 67-79, on Sunday.
Despite forcing overtime in their match against last season’s UAAP runners-up, DLSU head coach Juno Sauler’s wards fell short as their offensive struggles against UST was too much and shot only 24 percent from the field.
“We had good shots that we failed to convert. It’s also hard to win with seven assists,” Sauler said.
La Salle is looking to get a boost in morale as they gear up for the showdown with archrival Ateneo on Sunday.
“Both teams definitely don’t want to lose two straight games. Like what I’ve said before, we approached this game the same. We want to have the same mindset every game,” Sauler said.
Almond Vosotros and Jason Perkins scored 13 points each for La Salle, while main man Jeron Teng had only 10 and fouled out in the fourth quarter.
A young UP squad will be relying on Sam Marata, who after coming off a 20-point performance against Adamson will also be facing his former team.
“UP is very young but a hungry team with a lot of energy. Marata was their top scorer last game. He would love to play with his former team also,” Sauler said.
