DE La Salle had five players scoring in double figures in its 96-84 win over University of the Philippines on Wednesday in the UAAP men’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Jeron Teng led the Green Archers with 20 points. Jason Perkins also had 20 and 13 rebounds including the team’s final eight points in a 14-3 run that staved off a Maroons comeback.

The Green Archers won despite giving up 14 triples to the Maroons.

It was the first win of the season for the Taft-based school after losing its opening match against University of Santo Tomas.

Almond Vosotros added 15 points on 3-of-4 shooting from three-point range, Norbert Torres had a double-double of 14 and 17 rebounds, and Thomas Torres chipped in 14 on a 3-of-6 clip from beyond the arc for La Salle, which had more fast break points, 24-16.

“That’s one way to get points,” said La Salle coach Juno Sauler. “Sinabi ko sa mga boys, every opportunity that we have, we try to take advantage of it.”

Teng said the team played better against UP after its double overtime loss to UST.

“First game, may mga jitters pa,” said Teng. “We are still getting used to the system of coach Juno. In our practice, we emphasized on our fast break because we weren’t pushing the ball.”

UP's Sam Marata had a game-high 21 points including five triples against his former team.

Kyles Lao had 18 markers, while Henri Asilum added 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc.
