LA Salle played its best game of the UAAP season against former coach Aldin Ayo on Wednesday, dealing University of Santo Tomas a 99-72 drubbing at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Aljun Melecio, Justine Baltazar and Jollo Go reminded Ayo how deadly they can be, leading a hot start that saw the Green Archers zoomed to a 28-13 lead and set the tone for the rest of the match.
Things only got worse for Ayo and the Tigers from there as La Salle scored the most points by a team in a game this season and moved up to the top half of the standings with a 3-2 win-loss record.
UST dropped to 1-4 after its second straight lopsided defeat.
“The primary game plan today was for us to play 40 minutes at the highest level. Good thing sa laro ngayon, everybody contributed and everybody played at the highest level,” said Gonzalez, who was Ayo's assistant last season.
“Hanggang sa huli nag-stick sila sa game plan and nag-execute,” he added.
Baltazar finished with a career-best 22 points, which went well with 10 rebounds and three blocks – showing Ayo what exactly he can do if given longer minutes.
Melecio added 19 points and eight rebounds, Andrei Caracut finished with 13 points, four rebounds and four assists, while three other players breached the double digit mark for the Green Archers.
Go and Santi Santillan finished with 11 apiece while rookie Encho Serrano finished with 10 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals off the bench to highlight their balanced attack.
Renzo Subido topscored with 16 points while Marvin Lee and Zach Huang added 13 points apiece for the Tigers, who missed big man Steve Akomo due to food poisoning.
Rookie sensation CJ Cansino was limited to just seven points on 3-11 shooting.
