The defending champs certainly learned the hard way against UE. Now they look to avoid the same pitfalls against another upset-conscious team in FEU

EVEN the best fall down sometimes.

La Salle found it the hard way when the defending champions, expected to run through University of the East, got dealt with its first loss of the season.

But rather than dwell on the stunning 75-71 defeat on Sunday, coach Topex Robinson believes that these humbling losses are just gonna make the Green Archers a better, if not hungrier team.

“It's gonna make us better and blaming them is the worst thing that we're gonna do. We cannot cry over spilled milk anymore, it's done and over with. Life goes on for us,” he said.

Robinson is not even gonna dare blame anyone for this defeat, not even Kevin Quiambao who uncharacteristically muffed two freebies which could have tied the game in the clutch.

“That's basketball. Sometimes you make shots, sometimes you lose shots,” he stated as the team shot 19-of-35 as a collective from the charity stripe.

“Ito na yung sinasabi ko palagi, that KQ will win games for us and KQ will lose games for us. It's not gonna change the dynamic. He's still gonna be our guy. And wherever he goes, we're gonna follow.”

What La Salle is taking from this is the understanding that it cannot underestimate any opponent, especially when the rest of the field has put a massive target on its back this UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament.

“Obviously, you don't want to lose games but you want to learn from those and that's the wake up call for everybody, that at any given time, that if you try to think that the other team will just roll down and die and that's what's going to happen,” he said.

It’s that mentality which the Green Archers would want to rectify when they play a driven Far Eastern University side on Wednesday at Smart Araneta Coliseum, with the 0-4 Tamaraws shooting for the upset at the 4:30 p.m. game.

Robinson is hopeful that La Salle turns things around quickly and not make the same mistakes.

“We’ll keep learning, and there were a lot of learnings on this game and it's just gonna make us better,” he said.

The Soaring Falcons (2-2) could not sustain their groove and succumbed to Ateneo, 60-51, last Saturday despite the heroics of Cedrick Manzano.

On the other hand, the Bulldogs (1-3) are still in the hunt to find a tonic to their finishing issues after falling to University of Santo Tomas, 67-64, with Jake Figueroa and Steve Nash Enriquez both tasked to once again lead the Jhocson side.
