DE LA Salle is appealing the season ban slapped by the UAAP board on fan JJ Atayde following his actions in the stands during last week's La Salle-Ateneo match.
League officials confirmed La Salle has submitted an official letter of appeal on Saturday to host school Adamson which will be tackled in Monday’s regular board meeting.
Atayde was banned for heckling Ateneo coach Bo Perasol after the Green Archers defeated the Blue Eagles, 66-64, last September 1.
The La Salle supporter shouted, “Perasol, salamat sa pagpapanalo sa amin,” while the Ateneo coach was on his way to the dugout moments after the match. Perasol attempted to cross over the railing at the baseline to confront Atayde but was pacified by his assistant coaches and security personnel.
Perasol, meanwhile, was penalized with a one-game suspension which he will serve in Sunday’s game against University of the East.
Last year, the father of Ateneo cager Nico Salva was also sanctioned with a season ban by the UAAP board after confronting FEU assistant coach Ronald Magtulis at the Philsports Arena.
The sanction on the elder Salva, however, was eventually lifted, according to league officials.
