IT’S almost a no-brainer for any coach to put full faith and trust in a player like Kevin Quiambao to deliver the goods when it counts the most.
And it was no different for Topex Robinson when the reigning and defending Season and Finals MVP dropped a career-best 33 on La Salle’s archrival Ateneo,
In fact, KQ was the recipient of a special instruction from Robinson that paved the way for a huge night in his Green Archers career.
‘Mag-bwakaw ka’
La Salle registered 20 assists over Ateneo’s 14 in a commanding 80-65 rivalry-day win.
But even as Robinson lauded a rather unselfish performance from his wards, he sure didn’t mind seeing hints of his main man being a ball hog when necessary.
And best believe KQ was up for it.
“Hinintay ko lang 'yung game na kusang pumunta sa’kin. Sabi kasi ni coach. magbwakaw ako eh, kaya bwinakaw ko na,” Quiambao said.
“Sumusunod lang po ako, pasensya na.”
His two assists might be further proof that he did take matters into his own hands for the most part, but it was a total Taft team effort that ultimately saw it cross the finish line.

It’s games and moments like these which remind Robinson how special of a gift Quiambao is to La Salle.
And just before the end of a lengthy weather-induced break, Taft’s champion shot-caller recalled a moment where it once again sunk in that the Green Archers have one, or if not, the country’s best college basketball player today.

“Yesterday when we had a mass, I get to see a glance of him on my right. Sabi ko, parang sobrang bait naman ni Lord na binigay itong mamang ito sa amin.”
Robinson furthered, “I think what I really admire about KQ is really the work that he puts in. Nobody on our team will question the work that he does and setting the tone, the standard for our team. We just have to trust him.
“He also knows that sometimes he’s forcing it and what I really like is he always tells me babawi siya palagi. He’s man enough to admit he was forcing things and babawi siya.
“His teammates love him and he loves his teammates and I think that’s really important,
