AS Kevin Quiambao took his place among La Salle’s all-time greats, there was one Green Archer icon in particular who gave him a much-needed boost.
Shortly after falling on the wrong end of the worst title series opener in UAAP history, Quiambao revealed having a heart-to-heart chat with Mac Cardona.

His fellow Rookie of the Year, Mythical Five selection, Finals MVP — and now champion — inspired him to rise to the occasion in more ways than one.
"After ng Game 1, magdamag kami nag-usap ni Kuya Mac Cardona, knowing na yung career niya puro ups and downs. Sobrang happy ako na nagkaroon ako ng encouraging words galing sa kanya. Thank you Kuya Mac, I love you," said Quiambao.
Also among his greatest takeaways from the two-time UAAP top scorer is his iconic one-hand shot.

“Nu’ng high school ako, puro one-hand shot galing kay Mac Cardona (ginagawa ko) na inspired talaga kay Kuya Mac.
“Thankful ako na nakatanggap ako ng words of encouragement mula sa kanya at talagang tinawagan niya ako after Game 1, knowing kung ano rin pinagdaanan ni Kuya Mac on and off the court at ‘yung mga ups and downs niya,” Quiambao said.
Whether KQ will fight with the green-and-white for at least another year to continue what now looks like a new Lasallian dynasty remains uncertain — at least for now.
