HIGH school star Kobe Paras said he intends to pursue a basketball career in the United States, vowing to prove his critics wrong.

Paras was spotted on Saturday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum watching the De La Salle Green Archers play the Adamson Falcons in his first public appearance since going to the United States to play high school ball.

The prodigious son of former PBA rookie-MVP said he is happy to attract attention for his performances in his rookie season with LA Cathedral high school in the US.

The performances, Paras said, prove that his decision to play ball abroad was worth it.

“At least, pinapakita ko naman na kaya ko naman. May naririnig ako na may mga doubts sa akin. I just want to prove them wrong,” said Paras.

Paras arrived on Friday to join the Philippine Under-18 team’s preparation for the Fiba-Asia championships in Doha on August 18 to 26.

The young forward said he is honored to play for flag and country.

“Minsan-minsan lang makasama sa national team,” said Paras, who already represented the country in international competitions through the Fiba-Asia Under-18 3x3 Championship.

“I’m proud to represent my country,” said Paras.

Paras is reportedly gaining interest from NCAA Division I schools. Although no college team has made an approach, Kobe said he is happy to attract attention from some teams.

“Masaya. Hindi ko naman ine-expect na may gusto rin sa akin. I’ll just go with the flow. After the national team, I’ll just go back and play for my high school,” said Paras.

Paras was non-committal when asked about returning to the Philippines to play college ball, specifically for the Green Archers.

“Hindi pa po ako sure doon. Focus lang ako sa high school ko,” said Paras.
