KIEFER Ravena is not giving up on the Ateneo Blue Eagles as he believes the defending champions are only a couple of wins away from getting back in contention in the UAAP men’s basketball tournament.
Ravena said head coach Bo Perasol has repeatedly emphasized the Eagles are still not out of it, especially with teams tightly bunched in the middle of the standings.
After a 0-3 start, Ateneo are currently in seventh place with a 2-4 win-loss record, but remains within reach of teams like University of the East (3-3), National University (3-3), and rival La Salle (2-3).
“More or less, we are desperate to win,” admitted Ravena. “But as coach pointed out, he gave us the UAAP standings and it was jampacked except for (leader) FEU (Far Eastern University). Alam namin ang possibilities na kung manalo lang kami ng manalo.”
“’Yun ang goal namin, manalo, keep on improving, and get healthy,” the former Rookie of the Year said.
Ravena is slowly getting back to his top form after suffering a sprained ankle to start the season. The Ateneo star had his best game of the season offensive-wise against UP, topscoring for the team with 15 points in a 72-64 win.
Perasol said a healthy Ravena will go a long way for the Eagles.
“Kiefer is (at) 50 percent, so you still have to watch out for the other 50 percent,” said the Ateneo coach. “That gives us confidence also.”
Ravena is determined to help his team get back in contention for a sixth straight league championship.
“We learned a lot from losing games and ayaw na namin maulit,” said Ravena.
