KIEFER Ravena may have sealed the MVP award for UAAP Season 78, but said he’d rather win the championship in his final season with the Ateneo Blue Eagles.
Ravena’s 28-point burst in the team’s final game of the regular season on Saturday against University of the East has allowed the Ateneo star to win the MVP award for the second straight year, as per the unofficial computation done by Spin.ph.
Ravena, however, said what he really covets is a bigger prize – another UAAP title.
“I'd rather get the championship,” Ravena said. “It will be a blessing (if I win the MVP). One is enough. I'd rather get the championship.”
The Blue Eagles suffered a 74-69 loss to the Red Warriors that ended their bid for a twice-to-beat edge. They finished with a 9-5 record for the No. 3 spot in the Final Four.
But instead of sulking following the defeat, Ravena said Ateneo is looking forward to regrouping, with head coach Bo Perasol saying the loss could be a wake-up call for the team entering the semifinals.
Ateneo later learned it will face Far Eastern University in the Final Four after the Tamaraws lost to National University, 68-70, sliding down to second place.
Ravena said the Blue Eagles will be ready for the Tamaraws.
“Sayang ‘yung opportunity. But we have to focus on the present. Kailangan lang namin to get our minds right, rest our bodies, and stay positive and be ready,” Ravena said.
