COUNT the reigning UAAP Most Valuable Player among those more than willing to join the Gilas Pilipinas training pool.
Ateneo star Kiefer Ravena disclosed he’ll have no reservations if and when he is asked to join the national team especially now that several of Gilas’ cadet players are now in the PBA.
“I’m open to it,” said the 20-year-old Ravena in an interview with media men shortly after he was formally awarded the Season 77 MVP plum on Wednesday.
Ravena clinched his first UAAP MVP award this season, but Ateneo’s campaign in Season 77 came to a stunning end when it was ousted by National University in the Final Four despite enjoying twice-to-beat edge.
The eldest of two playing sons by former PBA player Bong Ravena and one-time national volleyball player Mozzy Ravena, Kiefer has played for the national team twice in the past as part of Sinag Pilipinas that won the basketball gold in the Southeast Asian Games in 2011 and 2013.
Ravena said he is looking forward to the challenge of playing alongside some of the best amateur stars in the land in the Gilas cadet pool.
“I want to play with the best collegiate basketball players. Ibang challenge din ‘yun to compete with them. I’ll definitely be open to it. I won’t think twice about joining the Gilas team,” said Ravena.
