ATENEO may be the hottest team in the UAAP Season 80 now, having won 12 straight games in the tournament, but La Salle skipper Kib Montalbo is confident about their chances entering their grudge match.
After all, they’re riding high on a six-game win run, winning almost every game convincingly and hacking out close ones like real champions.
With the Green Archers nearing playoff form, Montalbo hopes that this is something that they can sustain as they take on the Blue Eagles next Sunday.
“Every win is a morale-boosting win sa amin, especially since we’re facing Ateneo the next game. We want to win this game para tuloy-tuloy yung confidence namin going to the final four,” said Montalbo after their 101-76 destruction of National University on Saturday.
“Of course, we’re confident and actually ano lang, we’re approaching this final four stretch day by day,” he added.
The Blue Eagles have looked as invincible as any team can be, but the proud son of Bacolod trusts his team and his coaching staff to find holes in the well-oiled machine that is Ateneo.
Fans of the Green Archers can only hope that it’s a matter of time before those things are exposed.
“Of course, no team is unbeatable. Once we see their flaws, we’re gonna expose them and hopefully, we’ll win the game,” Montalbo continued.
“Ateneo-La Salle yan. Standings don’t matter. Rivalry yan e.”
After that costly turnover in the endgame in that narrow 76-75 loss in the first round, Montalbo vows to do everything he can to bounce back and spoil Ateneo’s sweep dreams.
“When it comes to the court, I don’t care kung sino kalaban ko basta Ateneo yan, I’ll go hard. Every single day, practice hard,” said Montalbo.
“Next day, practice harder, make sure to rest well. Pagdating ng game time, we’ll give it our all.”
