KEVIN Quiambao is on pace for his second straight MVP honors as he was head and shoulders above the pack at the end of the first round of the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament.
The La Salle forward registered a strong 87.571 statistical points (SPs) as he captained the Green Archers to a 6-1 win-loss record to sit atop of the standings.
Quiambao, last year’s Season and Finals MVP, averaged a league-best 16.43 points, to go with 8.86 rebounds, 5.43 assists, and 1.29 steals as he seeks to be the first back-to-back UAAP MVP after Ben Mbala in 2016 and 2017.

University of the Philippines playmaker JD Cagulangan is at distant second with his 77.0 SPs, followed by La Salle big man Mike Phillips (72.143 SPs), University of the East forward Precious Momowei (68.286 SPs), and Far Eastern University center Mo Konateh (63.571 SPs).
Rounding out the top 10 are the University of Santo Tomas pair of Forthsky Padrigao (62.429 SPs) and Mo Tounkara (60 SPs), La Salle guard Joshua David (55.857 SPs), UST scorer Nic Cabanero (55.143 SPs), and UP slotman Quentin Millora-Brown (54.714 SPs).
Kacey Dela Rosa dominating UAAP Women’s Hoops Again
Like KQ, Kacey dela Rosa is also eyeing back-to-back MVP honors as she sits atop the women’s basketball tournament MVP race.
The Ateneo center nabbed 90.143 SPs powered by her league-leading marks of 21.43 points, 14.71 rebounds, and 2.14 blocks, along with her 1.29 assists and 1.0 steal.
UST guard Kent Pastrana is at hot pursuit at second with her 84.714 SPs as she netted 17.29 points, 9.14 boards, 2.71 assists, 2.29 steals, and 1.43 blocks.
Completing the top five were Ateneo slasher Junize Calago (72.571 SPs), UP playmaker Louna Ozar (71.571 SPs), and Ateneo’s Sarah Makanjuola (67.429 SPs).
Making it to the top 10 are National University’s Angel Surada (65.714 SPs) and Camille Clarin (64.429 SPs), UST’s Eka Soriano (64 SPs), UP’s Achrissa Maw (63.857 SPs), and UE’s Rachel Lacayanga (60,667 SPs).
