UST coach Bong de la Cruz says in his eyes, the MVP of the tournament is the Tigers main man Kevin Ferrer.
Kiefer Ravena, the MVP himself, made a grand gesture of letting Ferrer lift the trophy with him during the trophy presentation on Saturday, later saying it was because the UST star also deserves the award.
The title is determined by statistics only, but De la Cruz made known who his vote was for.
“Siyempre, para sa akin ang MVP si Kevin. Wala nang iba,” said Dela Cruz.
De la Cruz considers Ferrer the biggest reason why the Tigers are in the finals, boosting a team that was rarely mentioned in preseason talk about title favorites after missing the semifinals last year.
“Wala naman ang nagsabing mapupunta kami sa finals. Pero nandito si Kevin, linead niya ’yung team, linead niya ’yung family together with the other veterans,” Dela Cruz said.
“Kung sino ang MVP, siyempre si Kevin Ferrer,” he added.
Ravena had 69.5 total statistical points, edging Ferrer who had 67.3571.
Ferrer, in his final year with UST, averaged 17.9 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in carrying the Tigers to the finals series.
