UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas was dealt another injury blow when stalwart Kevin Ferrer underwent surgery after suffering a fracture on his left hand in practice.

UST coach Bong Dela Cruz said Ferrer, tasked to lead the Tigers after the departure of Jeric Teng, suffered the injury in a freak accident in practice this week.

A UST insider added the swelling on the non-shooting hand was so severe that it required surgery, which was done in midweek.

Dela Cruz said Ferrer is at risk of missing some games in the UAAP men's basketball tournament while playing down earlier information from sources that the former Sinag Pilipinas member is in danger of missing the whole season.

Another UST insider, on the other hand, said Ferrer is back practicing with the Tigers ahead of their game on Saturday against Far Eastern University.

UST is currently at the middle of the pack with a 4-4 win-loss record but has struggled putting its act together under Dela Cruz while enduring health issues along the way.

Just last week, Karim Abdul needed to be hospitalized after sustaining a viral infection, forcing him to miss one game for UST.
