    Kevin Ferrer, Ed Daquioag vow to go all-out in final year of playing for UST Tigers

    GRADUATING University of Santo Tomas players Kevin Ferrer and Ed Daquioag make the most of their final season with the team after dominating opening game day performances in the UAAP Season 78 men's basketball tournament at Araneta Coliseum on Saturday.

    Ferrer came through with e 24 points, eight rebounds, four assists and a steal, while Daquioag poured a game-high 28 markers, three boards, and three steals as the two powered the Tigers past the Adamson Falcons, 70-64.

    “Iniisip ko kasi last year ko na ito kaya lahat gagawin ko na, all out na ako, kaming mga beterano,” said Ferrer, who treats Daquioag as his brother.

    “Parang kapatid ko na kasi si Ed,” said the national team member. “Everyday kaming magkasama, nag-uusap binibigyan namin ng importansiya ang team.”

    The soft-spoken Daquioag recovered from a horrible 2-of-9 shooting from the field in the first half after coach Bong dela Cruz reminded him of his role with the team.

    “Sa half time sabi sa akin ni coach na kami ni Kevin ang dapat na mag-lead ng team,” he said. “Siguro kinakabahan pa ako sa first half pero sa third and fourth quarter doon na ako naka-settle down.”

    Ferrer and Daquioag took charge for the Tigers just when Joseph Nalos led the Falcons back from the grave and threatened at 59-61 in the final two minutes.

    The UST duo scored back-to-back baskets to push the lead to 67-63 with 25.8 seconds remaining.

    “Isa kasi ako sa leader sa team kaya kailangan ko mag-set ng good example para sa mga teammates ko,” said Ferrer.
