THE fourth ace is now feeling the pressure, with eyes on him this early as he enters his first year in college.

Kenneth Alas, after all, is the son of multi-titled coach Louie and brothers of PBA players Kevin and Kristoffer. No wonder the expectations are sky high.

“Madalas may pressure,” the 18-year-old Alas said. “Marami rin daw ang nag-eexpect kasi kahit saan.”

Now eyes are on him as he has yet to commit to a college after playing for the San Beda Red Cubs.

Alas averaged eight points and 8.6 rebounds during the Season 90 eliminations with the Red Cubs, who won their sixth straight NCAA crown after beating Mapua-Malayan with a team that also included Andrei Caracut, Marc Diputado, Evan Furaque, and Nico Abatayo.

But Alas said his family has always been supportive, helping ease the pressure on him.

Nandiyan naman si Dad, sinasabi lang niya relax lang and do your best on the court. Ako bigay ko lang lahat every game.”

“Nung una nape-pressure ako kasi kahit saan, sinasabi dapat sundan ko daw yapak ng kuya ko. Sinasabi lang nila sa akin na play a hundred percent and be humble off the court."

When asked how big an influence his father and brothers are to him, Kenneth said, “Sobrang laki. Kapag magkakasama kami, basketball pa rin pinag-uusapan namin at binibigyan ako ng advice.”

Kevin noted that Kenneth needs to improve his outside shooting to do well in college. Last year, Kenneth had a 56-of-96 clip from the field, but none were from three-point land.

“Nakikita ko sarili ko sa kanya. ’Yung moves niya, feeling ko parehong pareho,” said the elder Alas, now in his rookie year with Talk 'N Text in the PBA after an impressive career with Letran in college.

“’Yung moves niya, feeling ko pareho kami. He needs to improve his outside shooting and be consistent with it. He’s a good defender naman kasi malaki at mahaba siya,” said Kevin.

“Advice ko sa kanya is he should outwork everyone in practice. Then ‘yung mindset niya sa laro, huwag dapat magbabago. Be himself lang everytime.”

For his part, Kenneth plans to become a swingman after playing mostly as a big in college.

“Try to gain weight kasi big boys na sa college. Hindi na ako big man, kailangan ko na bumalik sa natural position ko which is 3. Kailangan ko ng speed at weight,” Kenneth said.
