KARIM Abdul is raring to get back into action for University of Santo Tomas after being released from the hospital recently due to viral infection.

Abdul admitted he is not yet feeling well during the Tigers’ UAAP men’s basketball game  against Adamson on Saturday but was looking forward to play.

The UST big man was confined for five days before being released on Friday.

“Still feeling a little bit groggy,” Abdul said. “I just got out of the hospital yesterday (Friday). I really wanted to play.

“It’s been going around. It’s in the air and it’s been hot,” said Abdul, when asked how he contacted the infection.

Abdul played for four minutes and scored two points, all on free throws, in the Tigers’ 61-59 win over the Falcons.

UST coach Bong Dela Cruz said he is patient with the Tigers’ big man as he waits for the Cameroonian center to fully recover from the illness.

“Right now, si Karim, mga nasa 60 percent pa lang. Tomorrow, i-ta-try niya mag-run dahan-dahan para ma-recover niya ‘yung strength niya,” said Dela Cruz.

Despite Abdul’s limited playing minutes, the Tigers were able to get more offensive rebounds than the Falcons, 20-14, including four in the final minute to eke out the win.

“That’s what made them win,” said Abdul. “I’m happy for the team.”

In Abdul’s place, Aljon Mariano grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds for the Tigers. He looks forward to Abdul’s return.

“Medyo undersized kami kapag wala si Abdul. Lahat kailangang mag-step up, hindi lang ako. Buti nagiging okay na siya,” said Mariano.
