LA Salle coach Aldin Ayo called Julian Sargent a game-changer for his defensive prowess for the Green Archers this season.
“Offensively, we have JT (Jeron Teng) on the wing. But on the defensive end, we also have Jules (Sargent),” said Ayo.
“I can say right now that Jules is a game-changer for us, especially on defense,” said Ayo.
Sargent was able to secure his spot in the line-up for Season 79 after the league reverted back to its old age limit of 25 years old.
Despite averaging only 7.5 minutes a game in his first two games, Sargent stood out for Ayo due to his stellar defense for the Green Archers in their 2-0 slate. With his long wingspan, he has been tasked by Ayo to cover point guards in La Salle’s pressure defense.
Sargent has also come up with two rebounds in each of the two games, while also combining for three assists against Far Eastern University and University of the Philippines despite his short stints on the floor.
Despite returning to La Salle a few months after a new head coach was named, Sargent impressed Ayo as he was quick to grasp the new defensive system of the Green Archers.
“Dun talaga kami nagta-thrive sa defense. He knows the system. We really depend on him on defense,” said Ayo.
