WITH the way he played in the first game, Juan Gomez de Liano showed he is determined to deliver on the promise of a Final Four appearance for the Maroons.
Gomez de Liano had 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists to power the Fighting Maroons to a huge win over the UE Red Warriors to open its UAAP Season 81 campaign on a high note on Saturday.
“We did pretty well. We have to continue to trust the system. Our job is to give it our best and just do it,” said Gomez de Liano.
The 18-year old stalwart dazzled around the hapless Red Warrior defense, doing it in his style as he threw sick bounce passes and alley-oops, while catching fire from beyond the arc.
For Goimez De Liano, it ain’t fancy when it’s accurate.
“That’s just what I do ever since,” said Gomez de Liano. “It’s not fancy, it’s accurate.”
Like his teammates, Gomez de Liano isn’t looking past this first win as he knows that it’s gonna take more than a 29 point win in their opener to reach their goals.
“It’s just the first win. We can’t expect anything else. For me and my teammates, on to the next one,” said Gomez de Liano who added that he needs to be more of a leader if they want to make a run this season.
“Coach Bo told me to become a leader for this team, so I’ll just continue to create for them.”
