THE epitome of a student athlete, JR Gallarza hit high marks on and off the competition arenas, and for that he was chosen Spin.ph awardee for the category Sportsmen Who Excel Academically.
He once averaged double figures for the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, and is set to graduate with honors.
Gallarza joins an elite list of awardees led by Sportsman of the Year Calvin Abueva, who received the award on Saturday at the Ceremonial Hall of the Marriott Hotel.
Gallarza is not pursuing a professional basketball carrer and is now in Canada to take care of his family.
“I feel very humbled and honored to be part of this year’s recipients,” said Gallarza in a video message.
Also honored were top sports executive Manny V. Pangilinan, the NCAA champion Letran Knights and volleyball star Alyssa Valdez.
