JOHN Apacible has been barred by Ateneo from attending Blue Eagles games and training after it was confirmed that the drunk man in the video that recently went viral was him.
Ateneo team manager Epok Quimpo didn’t mention on Tuesday when Apacible will start serving the suspension or how long will he be barred from attending games and practices.
The Blue Eagles face University of Santo Tomas on Wednesday.
“John Apacible made a mistake and it will not be tolerated,” said Quimpo in an SMS message to Spin.ph. “This is his own doing which will result to disciplinary actions: 1) He will face game suspensions, and 2) He will not be allowed to practice.”
Apacible was identified as the young man who was caught ranting in a video to a driver while showing a ‘Councilor’ special plate, causing a commotion on Timog Avenue in Quezon City.
Despite the sanction, Quimpo said the team fully supports Apacible after he apologized to the whole team following the unfortunate incident.
“John apologized to the whole team including the coaching staff and management. His teammates will be supporting him through this trying time, more so in the faith that he will become a better Atenean,” Quimpo said.
Apacible is averaging three points and 1.5 rebounds, converting all of his 11 shots from the field in eight games for the Blue Eagles this season.
