AT the end of the first round of UAAP Season 78 eliminations, one player earned the right to be called 'Mr. Perfect.'

He is Ateneo’s John Apacible, who through six games with the Blue Eagles in the first round have hit a perfect 11-of-11 from the field  - the only player this season who has yet to miss a field goal attempt.

The 19-year-old Apacible said he is aware of his perfect record from the field but insisted he is not putting much into it.

“Nasabi nga po sa akin ‘yun,” Apacible said. “Hindi ko po iniisip ‘yun.”

Instead, the 6-foot-4 forward said his main focus is to go for every rebound and make every second that he is on the floor count for the Blue Eagles, who are no longer as tall as they were in previous years.

“Ginagawa ko lang ‘yung makakaya ko. Kahit hindi ako mabigyan ng playing time, kahit saglit lang, gagawin ko ‘yung best ko para makatulong sa team,” said Apacible.

Apacible, who has shed 20 pounds prior to the season, said he is also trying to expand his game, working on his skills knowing he is undersized for the power forward position.

“Nag-aaral akong mag-dribble tsaka ‘yung outside shots ko, kasi alam ko na undersize ako compared sa iba. Gusto ko rin maging threat din ako (offensively),” said Apacible.

For now, Apacible said he wants to be the 'energy guy' for the Blue Eagles going into the second round.

“’Yung role ko rebounder at tsaka energy guy. Matagal pa naman ‘yung season kaya kailangan mabigay ko ‘yun sa team,” said Apacible.
