Jett Manuel sees brother Joaqui a 'better fit' for defense-oriented La Salle

Mar 30, 2018
Joaqui Manuel will fit right in with La Salle after serving as one of the top defensive players for the Blue Eaglets, says his brother Jett.

JETT Manuel gave his support to the decision of his brother Joaqui to play for La Salle after suiting up for Ateneo in his high school career.

The elder Manuel, who is currently playing for Barangay Ginebra in the PBA, said Joaqui is a good fit to the La Salle team under new head coach Louie Gonzalez, who preaches defense in the system he runs for the Green Archers.

“I think it was the better fit really for my brother,” said Manuel. “With everything, from the coaches, management, and the system. Everything was really just a better fit for my brother.”

The younger Manuel transferred to La Salle, becoming the first player since BJ Manalo in the late 1990s to move from the Ateneo Blue Eaglets to the Green Archers.

The 6-foot-3 Manuel had a solid outing for the Blue Eaglets in Season 80. Playing behind SJ Belangel, Kai Sotto, and Dave Ildefonso, Manuel averaged 9.6 points and 9.1 rebounds in becoming one of the top defensive players in the juniors division.

Manuel will actually be joining his brother Juan, who is already studying in La Salle.

“We really wanted what was best for him, both as a player and a student, and we decided DLSU was the best choice,” said Jett.
