UNIVERSITY of the Philippines captain Jett Manuel had a defiant message for the rest of the UAAP teams and doubters of the Fighting Maroons.
Now under a different coach, and a veteran team, Manuel wants to prove that they are not the same Fighting Maroons of the previous seasons.
“No doubt I have all the confidence in the coaching staff that we can do something special,” the UP veteran said.
“We have to take it one game at a time and hopefully we could prove everybody wrong,” he added.
With key returnees such as Paul Desiderio and Gelo Vito still in the line-up, Manuel sees a better season with a young but experienced Maroons team in Season 79.
“I think we're more mature, more experienced as a team, which is important coming to the season,” said Manuel.
“We have a good mix of players, and rookie players [from] last year who [will] have a bigger impact this year,” he added.
Manuel also noted that he hopes to be a more mature and consistent player in leading the Maroons for his last season.
“I expect to play the best that I've ever played in my career and finish my UAAP career with a bang,” he said with a smile.
