JERRICK Ahanmisi believed all season long that Adamson is fully capable of making waves in UAAP Season 79 under coach Franz Pumaren, but the Falcons gunner was still in disbelief after the team made the Final Four cast by beating University of Santo Tomas, 76-61, on Wednesday.
"I really don't know. I'm speechless," he said during the post-game interview. "I knew we can make it this far as a team if we just followed what coach Franz (Pumaren) told us to do."
Pumaren understood his player's sentiment. The multi-titled mentor himself was on a high following the victory at the Mall of Asia Arena.
"Nobody, I guess, expected us to be here in the Final Four," he said.
What’s even more surprising is last season’s worst team still has a shot at the twice-to-beat advantage if it wins its last two assignments. Adamson stands in fourth place with a 7-5 record, just a game behind Ateneo and Far Eastern University in the standings.
Pumaren wants to make the most out of this rare opportunity for the Falcons, who will enter the playoffs for the first time since Season 74.
"We're in this situation that there's a possibility that we can create a tie for the second spot, why not? I guess we're the gatecrashers now and with this opportunity might as well make the most out of it," he said.
