JERIE Pingoy is emerging as a reliable playmaker for coach Franz Pumaren, setting the pace for the Adamson Falcons in a huge win over the National University Bulldogs.

A surprise starter for the Falcons, Pingoy played his best performance of the season with 12 points, six steals and five assists in less than 20 minutes of action.

Pumaren explained starting Pingoy over the usual Robbie Manalang and with the way the highly-touted playmaker responded, the gamble of the multi-titled UAAP coach may have paid off again.

“We adjusted our starters a bit. We needed to show everybody that your position is not secured and you have to work hard for it,” Pumaren said.

“Important for today’s game was we were able to establish our tempo from the start,” he added.

And dictate the tempo Pingoy did as he ran the Falcons’ offense and they opened an 11 point lead at the half.

By the interval, Pingoy already had six steals in total and two three pointers in that stretch to set the tone for the Falcons.

“I think I’m just lucky also that I’m getting the balls. Pina-practice ko naman yun. Yun ang alam ko matutulong sa team,” said Pingoy who reiterated that he’s just happy to be back strutting his wares in the UAAP.

“Last year alam kong wala ako, medyo matagal din na wala ako so I’m just happy na nakabalik ako sa league na to. I’m just following coach Franz,” he added

For the past two games, Pingoy has been as steadying force, putting up averages of 10.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists as the Falcons split their assignments.

The FEU High School product says he is just doing what he can for the team after serving more time in residency than on the floor over the past year.

“I’m just playing my best, am just following coach Franz’ system. Whatever I have right now, I’m just gonna do it, I’m just gonna play hard defense kasi alam ko yun ang matutulong ko sa team right now so I’m just happy I’m back,” said Pingoy.

“Wala naman atang gigil for me kasi sabi nga nila sakin, just play your best, pakita mo lang kung sino ka kasi alam naman natin kung sino ka di mo na kailangan mag-prove ng anything, just play hard, follow the system. Ganun lang, yung maliliit na bagay.”
