PERSISTENCE is paying off for young Javi Gomez De Liano, who has helped the Maroons score rare back-to-back wins in his rookie year in the UAAP.
After so-so performances the past few games, De Liano came up with a fine showing for the Maroons, who beat the Adamson Falcons after stunning the Ateneo Blue Eagles.
Gomez De Liano was perfect from the field in scoring his career-high 13 points, making all five of his shots, including two triples.
“Some of us were able to step up coming from the bench. ‘Yun ang gusto ni Coach Bo. Laging handa, always be ready,” he said.
De Liano actually had a solid showing in a losing effort against University of Sto. Tomas in the first round, saw his game dip before coming up with the huge performance against the Falcons.
He scored seven of his total in the fourth quarter.
Gomez De Liano, considered in the preseason as the biggest boost to a UP core of Jett Manuel, Gelo Vito and Diego Dario, thanked the UP veterans for trusting him.
“Malaking bagay ‘yung mga seniors sa akin. Sinasabihan ako na kaya mo ‘yan, be confident, ‘wag ka mag-dalawang isip. If you are going to do something, do it,” said Gomez De Liano.
“Confidence boost sa akin. Just go with the flow. Nagpapasalamat ako na I have a good game today,” said Gomez De Liano.
