UNIVERSITY of the East put together its first win streak in UAAP Season 80 as it clobbered National University, 90-77, on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
This time around, the Red Warriors didn't need an explosion from Alvin Pasaol to stay afloat as his support cast answered the call.
Mark Olayon, Will Bartolome and Mark Maloles picked up where Pasaol left off as they conspired in the second half to build on Pasaol who did most of his damage in the first half.
Pasaol, who scored nine of his 11 points in the second half, didn't have to play in the fourth quarter with Olayon the steadying force for coach Derrick Pumaren.
Olayon finished with 17 points, eight assists and six rebounds, to prove that the Red Warriors are more than just a Pasaol team.
The Red Warriors improved to 2-6 for the season as the Bulldogs dropped their fourth loss in five games to fall to 3-5.
"We've talked about it. If we want to make a run we have to start the second round on a winning note. We just came in there and played well," said head coach Derrick Pumaren.
"The second group came in and give Alvin. The needed rest. They were able to deliver and hold the for the team," he added.
Bartolome added 14, Abanto had a double double of 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Mark Maloles also finished with 13.
Issa Gaye had 20 points and 13 rebounds for the Bulldogs.
JJ Alejandro was two rebounds shy of a triple double with 16 points and 10 assists but that all went for naught as they found little help from their support cast.
