JASON Perkins vowed to make up for lost time and work for his spot in La Salle's roster for Season 79 of the UAAP as he finally suited up for the Green Archers in the late stages of the preseason.
Perkins saw action for the second time for the Green Archers in the semifinals of the Milcu Got Skills Summer Showcase on Thursday, several weeks after his return to the team following his stint in the PBA D-League.
In the semis match that La Salle lost against UE, 75-93, Perkins struggled to carry a Green Archers squad that played without Ben Mbala, Jeron Teng, and Abu Tratter, as he finished with just four points and six rebounds.
But while Perkins admitted he's still groping for form under coach Aldin Ayo's system, he found consolation in donning a familiar jersey as the team hits the final stages of its campaign in the Got Skills tournament, following La Salle’s conquest of the Filoil Cup.
“It’s good wearing green again,” said Perkins, who decided to play out his fourth and final year with La Salle in Season 79.
“I’m trying to get used to the system right now,” he added. “Coach Ayo is really meticulous with details. He does a lot of schemes so I just try to fill into the system and just try to learn.”
Ayo has been adamant that Perkins isn’t assured of a spot in the UAAP roster of the Green Archers, a stand that Perkins agrees on.
“It’s okay. I agree because I know coach Ayo’s practices are really tough. It’s really hard work so I should not have a spot right now because I haven’t been here for four months, said Perkins, who appears a lot leaner than last year
“I got to go back in there and prove something,” he added.
