JASON Perkins will return for his final year with De La Salle in UAAP Season 79.
According to a source who refused to be identified, Perkins has informed his PBA D-League team Racal Tile Master this week that he will not suit up for the coming Foundation Cup, as he has decided to play for the Green Archers this coming collegiate season.
Perkins later confirmed the development in a press statement:
"I've decided to finish my last playing year with La Salle. Before I came to Manila, I promised my mom I would graduate and I want to make her happy. La Salle has been very loyal to me and I want to show them my loyalty as well. In my rookie year, we won a championship and I want to end on another championship," he said.
Perkins should be a crucial addition to an already solid Green Archers frontline that still has Jeron Teng and Ben Mbala, who has been putting up good numbers for La Salle during the preseason.
Perkins attended La Salle practice at the start of the week for its session with renowned trainer Ganon Baker, but said he was only there to say hi to his teammates.
With several months before Season 79 opens, Perkins, however, still has work to do to get used to the system of new head coach Aldin Ayo, who was hired last December after a championship run with Letran in the NCAA.
Perkins added he has already spoken with Racal head coach Caloy Garcia and has been granted his release. The burly forward said he wants to play again for Garcia in the D-League if an opportunity arises.
