JAMIKE Jarin agreed that Lenda Douanga's winner was truly an amazing shot.
"Not to take anything away from Douanga, those are the shots you can only dream of," he said.
But in his eyes, a violation should have been called right in the inbounds play.
"It was a clear five-second violation," said the outspoken National University said on the heels of his side's tough 84-83 overtime defeat to Adamson on Saturday.
Jarin argued that Jerom Lastimosa took too long of a time to pass the ball to Douanga with 1.4 seconds remaining in the extension, yet the referees failed to call the infraction.
He even showed video of the play, with Lastimosa clearly needing more than five seconds to get the ball off.
But the champion coach said that outside of those final sequences, he's satisfied with the way his Bulldogs played in this opener.
"Just like what I told my boys in the dugout, I'm proud with how we played," he said. "We started well, they came back. They had the lead, we took it back, had an opportunity to win it in overtime, but it's just the ball didn't fall to us today. We're just one rebound away from the victory."
Adding to Jarin's satisfaction was the maturity NU has shown against a contender like Adamson, something he has been looking for since last year.
"At least coming into the game, we're a bit experienced. I'm just proud of them."
"I told them I'm happy and proud with how they played and I'm just excited on coaching them for the entire season. Without the last shot, happy ka na, fulfilled ka na eh. You should be happy with how our boys played."
