AFTER finishing his college eligibility, J-Jay Alejandro has stayed on at National University to help out in a different capacity.
NU coach Jamike Jarin said Alejandro has volunteered to join the Bulldogs' coaching staff during the preseason, the reason the latter was seen sitting on the bench during a match against University of the Philippines in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup.
“He helps out. J-Jay Alejandro helps out. He wants to give back to the school also. He is a volunteer assistant for us,” said Jarin.
Jarin said the 22-year-old Alejandro has also volunteered to be part of the coaching staff to learn the game from a coaching standpoint.
“He wants to learn from a different perspective,” said Jarin.
Jarin, however, also anticipates offers to play for any team is bound to take the former Bulldogs forward away from the NU bench role.
Prior to joining the NU coaching staff, Alejandro had a playing stint with Go For Gold in the PBA D-League and was named to the Gilas Pilipinas cadets pool.
In any case, Jarin said Alejandro is welcome to join the team anytime.
“Hopefully, if the schedule allows him,” said Jarin when asked if Alejandro’s assistant coaching duties will run until the UAAP.
