J-JAY Alejandro was disappointed his career game went for naught as National University lost to Far Eastern University in the UAAP Season 79 seniors basketball tournament on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Alejandro scored 31 points to notch his best output in his career, joining two-time UAAP MVP Bobby Ray Parks as the only NU players to score more than 30 in a game.
However, the individual accomplishment didn’t lead to a team achievement as the Bulldogs dropped a 78-75 decision to the Tamaraws on Wednesday to cap the first round with a 4-3 win-loss slate.
“Wala na ‘yun, move on na,” said Alejandro. “Bounce back na lang sa Sunday.”
NU coach Eric Altamirano said he expects that kind of explosion for Alejandro, although he would have preferred to have other players also stepping up.
“He is one of our veterans. We need him to do that for us especially with this young team. But again, hopefully, it would be a balanced scoring for us na maka-contribute din ‘yung iba,” Altamirano said.
Alejandro said the opportunity presented itself for him to have a scoring outburst against the Tamaraws.
“Sabi ni coach, maging aggressive lang. Kung ano ‘yung ibigay ng depensa, just attack,” he said.
Incidentally, the Bulldogs will face FEU once again on Sunday to open up their second round campaign where Alejandro hopes to do more of the same for his team—this time, however, in a winning cause.
“Sana pero I hope manalo kami,” said Alejandro.
