ASIDE from playing for the Ateneo Blue Eagles this season, Isaac Go was also busy with his thesis by formulating and selling a product.
As part of the requirements for his Management of Applied Chemistry (MAC) course, Go and his thesis-mates came up with X-Stink, a handy product a person can use to clean and disinfects toilet bowls for his personal use.
“When people go out and travel, or even at home, sometimes it’s not cleaned well or it smells bad,” said Go. “That’s where our product comes in. Wherever you go, if it smells, or it’s not clean, you can spray it. What it does is it disinfects the bowl. Even after you go, kung mabaho, you can spray one more.”
Go said the product was made as they are required to acme up with their own product, and sell it to the public.
“We have to come up with our own business. Since we are MAC students, we have to create our own product,” said Go.
Go and his group came up with the idea on the premise of promoting cleanliness. But formulating a product was not easy as they tried out different products before coming up with a deodorizer for toilet bowls.
“We kept on having problems. We said maybe (toilet bowl deodorizer) this could work. We stuck with it,” said Go.
“A lot of R&D (research and development) and we have to make our own, test it, and we have to check the manufacturer kung kaya nila gawin. We also need to check the market. Marami kaming pinagdaanan ng grupo,” he said,
“It can fit your bag, pocket, or you can give it as a gift. We want to create awareness about cleaning clean toilets for your good health,” said Go.
After creating the product, Go and his group sold the product in different malls where the reception was mostly positive.
“People in Alabang found it good because the product is self-explanatory. They really like the scent. The problem was there was not much knowledge about it. People are still unsure about it. Pero reception-wise, okay naman,” Go said.
The idea of the thesis, Go said, is to help create a business for the students. Go added he is not discounting the possibility of continuing with the product after college and even after basketball.
“After college, you can pursue it after college. Right now, we feel good about our product. We might push through with it after college,” said Go.
“It’s nice because basketball can give you a great future but basketball has to end somewhere. Maybe this early, maybe it can help pipeline with my basketball or maybe after basketball. Maybe I can set up business-wise to support the family,” said the 21-year-old big man.
