IT'S been a while, but the shockwaves from Mason Amos' move from Ateneo to La Salle can still be felt.

Trading in the ‘Blue Eagle Band of Brothers’ for the Green Archers brought out the whole range of emotions: confusion for most, delight for Lasallians, and betrayal for Ateneans.

But for he himself, the green-and-white gave Amos a sense of belonging, as well as security he could play to the best of his abilities.

“It's been a long time coming, and it's about time,” he told SPIN.ph on the heels of their title-clinching triumph over the University of the Philippines last Wednesday. “I came to this program because of their winning mindset, you know, and their brotherhood.”

“They stay together, they don't judge you for who you are, where you came from, they're just glad to have you, and they treat you like their own.”

Indeed, Amos played like he belonged in Game Three, despite continuing to mend a knee injury, punching 11 points, three rebounds, four assists, and three blocks, all of which he dedicated to those who belittled his defense.

“Just the trust that La Salle gave and welcoming me up with open arms, there's nothing I can trade for that, and I'm forever grateful,” he said.

It's on for Mason!

After all they've gone through on their way to the mountaintop, even more challenges are now coming for the defending champions.

Because next season, La Salle will deal with a significant frontcourt rehaul with the graduation of Mike Phillips and Bright Nwanko.

Even with the rise of Luis Pablo and the anticipated entry of Moses Mandiria, Phillips’ steady leadership and game-by-game double-doubles will be sorely missed.

Still, Amos is adamant that the Green Archers have more than enough to run it back - or more pointedly, run it back-to-back.

“It's going to be tougher next year, honestly. You know, we're going to have our work cut out for us, so we're going to have to fight and keep fighting for this La Salle community that's always been there for us and supported us," he said.

“You know, we got a lot of guys that can step up to the plate and lead by example. It's not just me. I mean, I have the most utter faith in all the guys and I believe in their leadership.”
