LAS VEGAS – Retired PBA star Danny Ildefonso is very hands-on when it comes to his athlete children.
The cage great personally accompanied son Sean Dave Ildefonso, a member of the Under-17 Batang Gilas team, to his training at the famed Impact Basketball training camp here.
Father and son are also with Danny I’s younger daughter Sofia, a volleyball player entering high school at Miriam College.
The two-time PBA MVP said it was his idea to have Sean Dave undergo personal training in the Las Vegas camp considered as the most successful player development system in the world established by Joe Abunassar, a former NCAA Division I coach.
Among the camp’s famous alumni include Kevin Garnett, John Wall, Kyle Lowry, Rudy Gay, Dion Waiters, Ricky Rubio, Chauncey Billups, Al Harrington, Tayshaun Prince, Josh Heustis, among others.
The elder Ildefonso finds Impact Basketball very effective as he also previously enrolled older son Shaun, an incoming college freshman trying out for a spot in coach Tab Baldwin's lineup at Ateneo, in the famed basketball training center.
“Yung kuya niya kasi nanggaling na dito,” he disclosed. “Maganda (dito), ibang klase.”
Players are taught to undergo skills training, dribbling, conditioning during their time at the training center. Shooting and five-on-five drills are also being held.
The Ildefonsos arrived in the US last April 1 and are slated to come home on April 19.
On the side, the family decided to watch Manny Pacquiao’s third fight against Timothy Bradley this Saturday (Sunday, Manila time) at the MGM Grand.
The family hooked up with fellow ex-pro players Kenneth Duremdes, Zaldy Realubit, Emerson Oreta, and Bernie Fabiosa as they visited the Filipino boxing icon in his suite at the Mandalay Bay Delano on Thursday night.
