ALMOND VOSOTROS came up with another fiery performance, this time getting a win to make up for the heartbreaking loss to rival Ateneo just five days ago as La Salle defeated University of the Philippines, 76-69, on Thursday in the UAAP seniors basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Vosotros stepped up in the absence of injured LA Revilla, scoring a personal-best 21 points and making three of six shots from behind the arc to lead the Green Archers to a 7-4 win-loss card, strengthening their hold on fourth place. La Salle is now a game ahead of National University (6-5).

It was a huge game for Vosotros, who previously scored 20 points against Ateneo last Saturday in a performance that proved in vain after the 67-77 loss to the Blue Eagles.

“I just want to commend the boys especially Almond for playing well in the second half,” said La Salle coach Gee Abanilla. “UP got the lead but we stayed the course and we are very happy because we gained some separation from NU.”

La Salle is still within striking distance of the twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four as the Green Archers are just one game behind joint second-placers Far Eastern University and University of Santo Tomas (8-3).

“We want to be ambitious. If we are going to dream big like winning all our remaining games, that is something that might happen. Good things happen to those who work hard and hopefully, mapagbigyan kami,” Abanilla said.

The Maroons were ahead by three points, 45-48, in the third when the Green Archers racked up nine straight points to pull ahead.
