FORMER La Salle coach Louie Gonzales cleared the air after an online report surfaced that he refused an offer to slide down to an assistant coach job for the Green Archers.

Reaching out to SPIN.ph, Gonzalez belied a report from another online news outlet which stated that he was declined the offer even after he was offered the same salary for an assistant coach position.

Gonzales said there has not been any talks between him and La Salle management with regard to an assitant coaching job after Jermaine Byrd was named to replace him.

"Gusto ko lang sana clear that we have not talked yet and wala pang ganun na offer," said the son of former coach Tanny Gonzales

"Like what I have mentioned, I am grateful to our boss (Danding Cojuangco), sa lahat ng tulong nya sa family ko and whatever his direction para sa ikakabuti ng team, I will support," he added.

Gonzales arrived in Taft back in 2016 as an assistant to then head coach Aldin Ayo, who immediately led the Gren Archers to a UAAP championship.

He was elevated to head coach in 2018, steering the Green Archers to an 8-6 record, although they fell short of the Final Four after ending the season with three straight losses.

Although there aren't any formal talks between him and management, Gonzales shared that he holds no grudges towards La Salle and will continue to support the team and longtime benefactor Cojuangco.

"Whatever it is, support lang ako kay boss ECJ. I am always grateful for the trust and the opportunity."
