The 22-year-old Rike played for Wake Forest in the NCAA Division 1, but had paltry numbers. Still, Rike got the nod as part of Gilas cadets and even in the Gilas seniors squad where he was part of the pool in the third window of the Fiba Basketball World Cup Asian qualifiers recently.
During the third window, Rike said he intends to stay in the Philippines in order to become a full-fledged Gilas player.
Recently, Rike made the news when he became a peacemaker in the brawl during the match between Gilas Pilipinas and Australia on Monday night where he was seen protecting Chris Goulding from punches being delivered against the Australian cager.
He got a cash incentive from Chooks-to-Go for the move, but Rike decided to give it to charity.
