UNIVERSITY of the East coach Chris Gavina has been suspended for four games following his expletive-filled postgame comments on the heels of the team's 111-110 overtime loss to La Salle last Wednesday.
The UAAP dropped the hammer on Saturday, stating, "As a collegial body representing eight universities, the UAAP upholds the values of camaraderie, sportsmanship, and respect. Coach Gavina’s actions were contrary to these principles."
"As a teacher and leader, a coach sets a high standard for the student-athletes and the university community."

Gavina lambasted the referees who officiated the game, namely Ralph Moreto, Roselle Ponting, and Jong Banayat, stating: “I hope these three referees never (expletive) ref again in any of our games."
Gavina will serve his ban on Sunday when UE ends its first round assignment against Far Eastern University. Team captain Wello Lingolingo will also begin his own three-game ban on this game day.

Handling the reins in his lieu will be deputies Alex Cabagnot and Paulo Hubalde, together with fellow assistant coaches Nino Canaleta, Nick Demusis, RJ Argamino, Louie Vigil, and Melvin Reyes.
