INCOMING Ateneo senior guard Gab Gomez has decided to leave the Blue Eagles’ nest after three UAAP seasons.

Gomez, now the fifth Blue Eagle from the Season 85 squad to leave the Katipunan side, penned his farewell note on Monday evening to the ‘program [that prepared him] for something more than basketball.’
“As I’m writing this message, I find myself with bittersweet emotions. It hurts to let you know that my journey as a Blue Eagle ends and I will be moving forward with my basketball journey,” said Gomez.
“Though my time in Ateneo did not end like how I expected, I still see it as a blessing that I was part of something special. It was still a dream come true.”

A busy offseason for Tab Baldwin’s Ateneo side has seen Gomez bid farewell after fellow aces Kai Ballungay, Jared Brown, Joseph Obasa, and Jason Credo.
But the Blue Eagles will still have the services of co-captains Sean Quitevis and Chris Koon alongside the country’s top-ranked high school prospect in Jared Bahay for Season 87 later this year.
The Filipino-Italian shooting ace was part of Ateneo’s championship conquest in Season 85 and in their silver-medal run the season prior — both against the University of the Philippines.
A wrist injury late in the season can be partly blamed for his limited minutes in his final season for the Katipunan side.
In 10 outings, Gomez had two starts and averaged 7:36 minutes per game. He also posted 2.5 points, 1.0 assist, 0.4 rebound, and 0.2 steal.
