FROM playing only three matches last year to delivering a stellar performance in a crucial Game Two of the UAAP Season 86 men's basketball finals, La Salle's Francis Escandor has come a long way.

Now he could be the team's X-Factor.

With La Salle's championship hopes hanging in the balance, the graduating Escandor redefined the concept of 'saving the best for last' by shooting 5-of-7 (4-of-5 from beyond the arc) in the 82-60 win over the UP Maroons in Game Two.

Despite his heroic contribution, the 6-foot-2 winger said he would like to be known as a team player.

“I’ve really been a team player ever since, especially knowing that we have the MVP in Kevin Quiambao in the squad. We just support him in the best way we can,” Escandor said. "This day was a good day, and we showed our depth as well."

Escandor's career, marked by a limited role in his penultimate year with only three appearances, took a positive turn during Topex Robinson's first season in charge of the perennial league title contenders.

Ranked fifth in minutes played (15.36 minutes per game) during the elimination round, Escandor embraced his journey with patience, perseverance, and faith as guiding principles.

"I think patience and, I’ll add to that perseverance, played huge roles (in my career). I wouldn’t be where I am today without the hard work and the grit that I went through. And I know that once I persevere and if I just continue to work hard no matter what, God sees all, He has something for me, and He’s watching," said Escandor. "Patience will definitely pay off."

As La Salle aims for its first UAAP title in seven years in Game Three on Wednesday, Escandor is determined to finish his collegiate journey on a high note.

Recognizing the significance of the Animo spirit, he stressed the team's commitment to giving their all for the green faithful and bringing the crown back to Taft.

"Our one last battle cry — ‘Animo!’ (spirit and courage). The green (faithful) will give it their all, the Green Archers will give it our all," he said.
